Common symptoms of depression include:

1. Persistent sadness or a low mood: Feeling sad, empty, or have a depressed mood most of the day, nearly every day.

2. Loss of interest or pleasure in activities: Losing interest in or finding no pleasure in activities that were once enjoyable, including hobbies, socializing, and sex.

3. Changes in appetite or weight: Significant weight loss or weight gain, or changes in appetite (increase or decrease) that are not related to intentional dieting or exercise.

4. Insomnia or excessive sleeping: Trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or excessive sleeping, even during the day.

5. Fatigue or loss of energy: Feeling tired, mentally and physically drained, or lacking energy for even simple tasks.

6. Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt: Feeling worthless, hopeless, or excessively guilty, without any specific reason.

7. Difficulty concentrating or making decisions: Having trouble concentrating, remembering details, or making decisions.

8. Restlessness or irritability: Feeling restless, agitated, or easily irritated. Having a low tolerance for frustration.

9. Physical symptoms: Experiencing unexplained physical problems such as headaches, digestive issues, or chronic pain that doesn’t respond to treatment.

10. Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide: Thinking about death, dying, or suicide, or having recurrent thoughts of self-harm.

It’s important to note that having a few of these symptoms does not necessarily mean a person has depression. However, if someone is experiencing several of these symptoms for at least two weeks and it is significantly affecting their daily life, it is advisable to seek professional help for a proper diagnosis and treatment.
