On September 19, Rec Therapy Today hosted a full day of presentations focused on Artificial Intelligence + Recreational Therapy.
After the conference, we asked participants what they learned or gained from the experience.
The responses showed both excitement and thoughtfulness about how AI might fit into recreational therapy practice.
One participant wrote:
“AI is great in assisting with interventions, therapeutic ideas for groups, and not a replacement for CTRS.”
Another shared:
“I learned how to use AI as a clinical assistant without crossing any barriers and breaking HIPAA.”
Several participants talked about discovering new ways AI could support their work.
One person had already taken something from the conference and put it into practice:
“I really enjoyed the music and decided to try using it for creative writing prompts which ended up being a wonderful group.”
Participants also recognized the importance of using AI thoughtfully.
One attendee described AI as a tool that can help with efficiency and new ideas, while emphasizing that it will “never replace human connection which is the best part of being a RT.”
Another simply said:
“That AI might not be that bad after all.”
Perhaps that’s one of the best outcomes we could have hoped for.
Our goal wasn’t to convince recreational therapists that AI has all the answers. It was to explore the possibilities, limitations, ethical considerations, and practical applications of this rapidly developing technology.
Thank You!
Thank you to our presenters and everyone who spent the day learning with us.
We also appreciate everyone who completed an evaluation and shared feedback afterward.
Your feedback will help guide what we develop next.
We’re excited to continue exploring the possibilities of AI + Recreational Therapy together.
