Many RTs report being unable to leave the unit due to staffing shortages, safety concerns, or scheduling limits. This can feel frustrating, but you can still provide meaningful therapy right where you are.
1. Use 5-minute setup groups
Reflection activities, worksheets, stress-management prompts, and journaling require almost no prep time.
2. Choose one-supply interventions
Paper-only groups or simple writing prompts reduce stress and increase efficiency.
3. Run “self-guided” stations
Set up independent tasks that clients can complete while you supervise.
4. Adapt the environment creatively
A hallway becomes a walking meditation.
A dayroom becomes a values circle.
Therapy can happen in almost any space.
