I work with teens who struggle in tough ways: self-harm, substance use, tearing up property, even assault. It’s heartbreaking to see them fight through life without the coping tools they need. That’s where recreational therapy comes in — we have a purpose to teach healthier coping strategies so these kids can function in society and thrive.
Through recreation — art, journaling, sports, games, mindfulness — we can show them new ways to channel energy, manage emotions, and build resilience. Coping skills are learned, and with our help, they can learn positive ones.
