As you already know, recreational therapy is close to my heart.
I want to take a moment to publicly appreciate the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA), its Board, Director Brent Wolfe, and advocate Dawn DeVries for their tireless advocacy efforts.
Recently, we’ve seen a troubling trend in our field, as V.A. hospitals have laid off 150 recreational therapists due to changes influenced by the Department of Government Efficiency.
This underscores the importance of having a strong national association to represent our interests and fight for our profession. We are fortunate to have ATRA advocating on our behalf.
I urge all recreational therapists to join this effort. One immediate action you can take is to contact your legislators and advocate for our profession. ATRA has provided a script and a helpful link to find and email or call your representatives. You can access this resource here:

Together, we can make a difference in preserving and promoting recreational therapy for all.
Thank you for your commitment to our vital field.
Sincerely,
Danny W. Pettry II, M.Ed, M.S. LPC NCC CTRS-BHS , Lifetime Member of ATRA
