Staffing shortages affect nearly every RT department. When resources are thin, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or stretched too far.
But even with limited staffing, meaningful therapy is still possible.
1. Choose low-prep interventions
Activities like therapeutic discussions, coping skills groups, values exercises, and music-based groups require minimal setup.
2. Encourage independent participation
Tasks that clients can complete with little supervision reduce stress and increase their confidence.
3. Reuse and recycle materials
Laminated prompts, premade activity cards, and modular interventions save time and energy.
4. Focus on quality over quantity
A well-run 30-minute group with clear goals is more therapeutic than a chaotic, overextended session.
You’re doing important work—even when staffing is low. Your creativity and adaptability make a difference.
