Insight # 2 — Feb. 2026
Each month, I share one practical insight to strengthen your recreational therapy practice.
Recreational Therapy Month is a time to celebrate the profession—but it’s also a good moment to pause and reflect on how the work is actually done.
Not every therapeutic outcome comes from a perfectly structured activity or a measurable data point.
Sometimes the most meaningful intervention is simply:
• Showing up consistently
• Holding space when emotions are heavy
• Staying regulated when others are not
• Creating safety through presence and predictability
• Offering choice, dignity, and respect in small moments
These elements don’t always stand out on paper—but they are felt.
Your tone matters.
Your presence matters.
The way you respond in difficult moments matters.
As recreational therapists, you often do the work that helps people feel human again—especially when life, illness, or trauma has taken that feeling away.
As you move through this month, consider taking a quiet moment to reflect:
• When did your presence make a difference recently?
• What moment felt small—but meaningful?
• How did you help create safety, connection, or hope?
Those moments are not incidental.
They are the heart of recreational therapy.
Thank you for the steady, compassionate work you do—this month and every month.
