Recreational therapists bring joy and purpose to individuals living with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease by focusing on reminiscence therapy, cognitive stimulation, and quality-of-life activities. Simple activities like listening to music from the client’s youth, looking through photo albums, or participating in gentle movement can evoke positive emotions and reduce agitation. Structured daily leisure routines provide orientation and comfort. RTs help maintain dignity by focusing on strengths and honoring life stories through recreation.
