Leisure education teaches far more than hobbies — it teaches life skills. When people rediscover joy, they rebuild identity.
A young man in recovery once said, “I forgot what fun felt like.” Through leisure counseling, he learned that fun could exist without substances. He discovered hiking, journaling, and connecting — a new identity emerged.
Leisure counseling bridges therapy and daily living. It teaches balance, time management, and meaningful engagement.
Tip for RTs: Ask clients, “What activity once made you feel most alive?” Then explore how to reintroduce that feeling safely and meaningfully.
