One of the most effective ways to help anxious patients isn’t giving advice—it’s active listening.
🤝 What Does Active Listening Look Like?
✔️ Maintain eye contact and an open posture
✔️ Use encouraging phrases (“I hear you,” “That sounds tough”)
✔️ Summarize their words to show understanding
✔️ Avoid giving quick advice—sometimes, patients just need to be heard
Saying things like “Just relax” or “It’s not that bad” can make anxiety worse. Instead, validate their feelings and let them express their thoughts. Feeling truly heard is often the first step toward healing.
