Celebrating the New Year: Embracing 2025 with Hope and Goa

Hello 2025…

New Year’s has always held a special place in my heart. It’s a time for reflection, renewal, and, most importantly, setting new resolutions that guide us towards growth. This holiday is much more than a date change; it’s a fresh start, a chance to dream big and take steps toward making those dreams a reality.

In the spirit of this joyous holiday, I want to share some of my goals for the upcoming year. I’ve always believed that setting clear objectives empowers us and keeps us focused. This year, I’m aiming to read 60 books—a combination of both fiction and non-fiction. I believe that reading broadens our horizons and ignites creativity, and I can’t wait to dive into new worlds and ideas.

I’m also excited to bring more valuable content to the community through my newsletters for Rec Therapy Today. My goal is to write 12 newsletters throughout the year, providing insights, resources, and inspiration for all those involved in recreational therapy. Additionally, I plan to host three free live CEU teleconferences—one in February, and then in the summer and autumn—providing valuable learning opportunities for our community.

Family is incredibly important to me, and I want to ensure I’m spending quality time with my loved ones. This year, I’m making it a priority to create lasting memories with them. I also look forward to broadening my cultural horizons by visiting three new museums. Each museum visit is a chance to learn something new and experience art and history firsthand.

I believe in the power of giving back, so this year, I’m also committing to donate to a no-kill animal shelter monthly. Every little bit helps ensure that our furry friends receive the care they need. Additionally, I’ll be donating blood regularly, contributing to a vital resource that can save lives. I also plan to donate the books I’ve read, sharing the joy of reading with others and decluttering my space at the same time.

Lastly, I’ve decided to embark on writing 12 mini books. These will be concise yet impactful, sharing my insights and experiences in recreational therapy, aimed at helping others in the field.

I’ll be keeping you all updated on my journey throughout the year right here on my blog. I can’t wait to share my experiences, the books I’ll read, the newsletters I’ll write, and the moments spent with my family.

Here’s to a fruitful and fulfilling 2025! May we all strive towards our goals and celebrate every step of the journey. Happy New Year!

“Do It Right the First Time” Is Terrible Advice

By Danny W. Pettry II, M.Ed. M.S., LPC, NCC, CTRS-BH I remember hearing teachers give this advice: “Do it right the first time, and you won’t have to do it again.” It sounds like good advice. And sometimes it is. If I’m completing a task I already know how to do,...
