Many RT departments operate with small budgets, especially in behavioral health and long-term care settings. Even so, recreational therapy remains one of the most versatile and creative treatment tools.
You can still deliver meaningful experiences without expensive supplies.
1. Use therapeutic discussions
Coping skills, mindfulness, gratitude, and problem-solving groups need only pencil and paper.
2. Incorporate movement-based activities
Stretching, chair yoga, guided walks, breathing exercises, and simple games cost nothing.
3. Make the most of existing materials
Decks of cards, art supplies, music playlists, worksheets, and storytelling prompts are versatile resources.
4. Remember: YOU are the most valuable resource
Your presence, empathy, and creativity are more powerful than any supply you purchase.
RT thrives with creativity—not budgets.
