I’m following Meagan’s lead and I’m reading the same 12 books in 2022.

What I discover in the book:

Keller & Papsan’s (2013) book is a book of tips on getting what you want.

They suggest doing the one major thing that would put everything else in place.

This is about doing the most important things first. First things first. Delay gratification.

Example: One small domino can knock down larger things.

I [Danny Pettry] am certified to teach success principles through Jack Canfield’s organization. Canfield describes this way: Hit one tree with an ax five times a day. Eventually that tree will fall. It requires persistent and keeping it up.

Do it until it becomes a habit.

Keller & Papsan’s (2013) argue that it takes 66 days to require a new habit.

Delayed Gratification is key.

Keller & Papsan’s (2013) discuses the famous Marshmallow Experiments. Kids could eat a marshmallow now or wait until the person returns from a small task and receive a second marshmallow. Two is better than one.  Some kids were not able to delay gratification. they ate the marshmallow right away. However, those kids who delayed gratification were more likely to be successful as adults.

Set a really big goal that is doable.

Put time, energy and effort towards the one thing that matters most.

Set a stretch goal that may be met with just a little extra time and effort.

Who else might enjoy reading this book:

  • This is for people who have hopes, wishes and dreams.
