Position: Asst/Assoc Professor and Program Director – Therapeutic Recreation

Duties: Summary
Regis, a leading Catholic university in Greater Boston, is devoted to the academic preparation of students with the goal of developing future professionals who will lead, serve and inspire. The School of Health Sciences is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and experienced individual to lead and promote the new Therapeutic Recreation program. The Program Director will be responsible for teaching, curriculum, accreditation, student advisement, internship supervision and administration of the program. In addition, the program director will participate in service and scholarship as required of all full time faculty. The ideal candidate will demonstrate both administrative and teaching experience with a desire to develop and lead future professionals in Therapeutic Recreation.

Essential Functions
•       Lead in curriculum development and pursuit of program accreditation.
•       Teach undergraduate level courses within the Therapeutic Recreation degree program.
•       Develop traditional, hybrid and online courses, utilizing available technology, to advance the program.
•       Assist with departmental and university assessment of courses and curricula.
•       Work collaboratively with fellow faculty, the Department Chair of Health and Fitness Studies, and the Dean of the School of Health Sciences.
•       Demonstrate commitment to the profession of Therapeutic Recreation and model professional attitudes and behaviors.
•       Engage in scholarly activity appropriate to the discipline such as publishing; presenting at national, regional, and local conferences; conducting research and/or grant writing and related activities.
•       Advise undergraduate students and monitor progress.
•       Foster an academic climate that facilitates student learning, as well as professional growth.
•       Develop internship site agreements and supervise student internships in Therapeutic Recreation.
•       Assist with promotion of the Therapeutic Recreation program, including participation in New Student Admission days.
•       Participate in faculty meetings and committees as appropriate, and demonstrate positive interaction and participation within the Regis community.
•       Promote positive interactions with the surrounding community to develop service-learning opportunities and promote student volunteerism.
•       Participate in local, regional and national professional development opportunities in Therapeutic Recreation, or related areas, as made available.
•       Fulfill all roles and responsibilities associated with faculty appointment, including teaching, scholarship and service to the Department, Programs, School and Institution.
•       Other duties as assigned.
Requirements: Requirements
•       Master’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field.
•       Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) in good standing.
•       Certified/licensed within MA or qualified to attain state certification/licensure.
•       Ability to uphold the university’s commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse educational community.
•       Minimum of 3 years professional experience in Therapeutic Recreation or related field.
•       At least one year of direct service experience in Recreational Therapy/Therapeutic Recreation.

Preferred Qualifications
•       Doctoral degree in Therapeutic Recreation/Recreational Therapy or related field.
•       3-5 years professional experience as a Recreational Therapist with supervisory roles.
•       2 or more years of direct service experience in Recreational Therapy/Therapeutic Recreation Experience in teaching and developing educational curricula.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands
•       Normal office environment, not subject to extremes in noise, odors, etc.
•       May spend extended periods at terminal, on telephone, or operating other office machines requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
•       Ability to work in a standard office setting.
•       Ability to drive and travel within the service area.
•       Ability to demonstrate movements and techniques related to recreational therapy.
•       Ability to perform all duties necessary for classroom, physical and recreational activities within the recreational therapy context.
