Hello all! My name is Deja Campbell and I am currently a senior completing my summer internship for the University of Toledo’s Recreational Therapy program!

I am grateful to be in a group of RT professionals and hope to improve my professionalism and network.

I wanted to share a little insight into my very unique virtual internship experience due to COVID restrictions.

As it all stands I am currently living in Atlanta, Georgia but am completing my internship at a behavioral health facility in Dublin, Ohio.

I stay at my laptop from around 7:30 am to 4:00 pm with a lunch break in between.

Using Zoom conference, I have independently assessed patients, co-facilitated groups and attended meetings.

Now I will be honest, this is not the internship I expected when I began my senior year but the RT staff in Dublin, Ohio make the most out of the situation by being supportive and informative and of course, carrying the laptop unit to unit (haha).

Even though I am not at the facility in person, I still believe I am learning great information about establishing therapeutic relationships, administering assessments, virtual facilitation styles and techniques, professionalism, time management and creative thinking for group activities.

I have about a month left in my internship and I am confident in my educational and internship experience that I will be a great profession and practicing RT!

Thank you for allowing me to share my story, I hope to get to know more of you all.
