Star fish story — The original story was written by LOREN EISLEY.
Here is the story:
Thousands of starfish were on the beach.
The tide recede back too fast.
The starfish were going to die.
A little girl picked up a starfish and threw it back into the blue ocean.
The picked up a second one and threw it back into the blue ocean, too.
An elder guy told the girl, “you’re wasting your time. You can’t save them all. There are too many of them. You can’t make a difference.”
The young girl picked up another starfish and threw it into the ocean.
She said, it made a difference to that one.
We, recreational therapists, are the little girl in the story.
Our clients are the many thousands of starfish in the world.
Some people never receive recreational therapy services when it could benefit from them.
There are the naysayers who tell us, recreational therapists (and other allied professionals) that we can’t make a difference. The problems are too big.
We might only be able to reach a few people.
Helping just one person means we have made a difference.
My advice to you:
Keep making a difference.
