The Recreational Therapist/Activity Manager crafts and executes an activity program comprised of formal and informal daily group and one-on-one engagements, as well as specialized interest group activities for people living with dementia.

This professional designs customized, biography-based programming for memory care residents focusing on normalizing routines, applying lifelong patterns, preferences and interests while creating opportunities for meaning and purpose. By providing cognitive stimulation, utilizing directed socialization strategies, as well as providing a nurturing, welcoming and person-centered environment, this professional helps those living with dementia reconnect with prior lifestyles and find validation and self-worth.

Designs, implements and leads programs in accordance with the Autumn Leaves Six Elements of Engagement to provide cognitive, physical and social stimulation.

Provides meaningful engagement for people living with dementia based on the previous lifestyle, preferences and comforts.

Designs monthly engagement calendar and creates community newsletter.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.

Associates degree from an accredited college or university; and one (1) year experience as a Recreational Therapist /Activity Director; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CTRS/L credentials preferred.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating procedures, policies and employee manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations.

Must have a valid driver’s license and clear driving record (satisfactory for inclusion on Company auto insurance policy).

This position requires local travel and occasional out of town travel.
