Here is a message from Gretchen Snethen:
Happy RecTherapy month!!!
We are hosting an information session about earning a MS degree in recreation therapy. A lot of times, students ask why a MS degree is important since we are a bachelor’s level entry profession. This webinar can help! We are hosting two sessions. The first for individuals with a background in TR and the second for individuals who may have experience in a related discipline, or are looking for a career change.
Our Masters program provides opportunities for students to gain advanced knowledge in recreation therapy. We pride ourselves in our efforts in evidence-based practice. We focus on preparing students to be future leaders within the profession. Our students are engaged in presentations and publications at the local and national level. A number of our graduates have taken on leadership roles within the profession and we are excited to call them colleagues and look forward to our continued collaboration with them.
We welcome students with diverse education backgrounds. We have some students who come into our program with a background in recreation therapy, while others join us with degrees in other related disciplines. For students who don’t have a background in recreation therapy, we prepare them to meet the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification eligibility requirements. We welcome students with diverse educational backgrounds, as we find it helps create a rich learning environment.
While we of course want students to come to Temple, we hope these information sessions will help encourage students and practitioners to pursue a Master’s in Recreation Therapy more broadly!
